Let's Make Biscuits

These are super trying times. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is hitting full force and we are all hunkering down and staying in. The stuff of history books is happening right now in our lifetime and it’s crazy, weird, scary, and feels much like the Twilight Zone. All we are doing in my house with three teenagers is baking, lots of baking. While food and household goods are in short supply these days with many store shelves empty and people fighting over and hoarding necessities, what I found left on the shelves are ingredients to bake. Cookies, brownies, cupcakes… and I have decided today to make biscuits. But not just real-life melt in your mouth biscuits, which I hope they turn out to be, I also plan to make “biscuits” for my business, which, at the moment is at an industry standstill. All I can offer right now is to be of service in acts of kindness by offering advice, tips, ideas, positivity, and a way to plan and prepare for when this veil of physical and financial illness passes in our global community.

Biscuits start with staple ingredients: self-rising flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, butter, buttermilk, and jam for the top. Imagine…we are the biscuits. When this craziness is over, we will be self-rising just like the flour, a bit salty and changed from the experience, and we will grow just like baking powder and baking soda adjust and alter in its environment. We will join and come together just as eggs form and bind, we will be richer from the knowledge and healing, just as butter enriches and elevates, and just as buttermilk is carefully formed, we will better prepare ourselves moving forward. Ultimately, we will be sweetened with the relief that we have joined together our global hands to make this world better for not just one or some of us, but for all of us, like the sweetness and cohesion of jam. We will make biscuits together out of the pain, fear, uncertainty, stress, and anxiety we are feeling at this moment, and we will rise.

I wish for you safety, health, calm, kindness, and I wish for you to have flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, butter, buttermilk, and jam in your real and metaphoric pantry.

With much thought for you and your family at this time.

Kindly,

Kelli
