Get your priorities straight!

Let's talk priorities! Whether you have a new business, new product or new idea, the most difficult step is to just get out of the starting gate. You’re excited and passionate and want to get everything done yesterday! Trust me when I tell you that if you don't prioritize, you will get nothing done at all. You will feel so overwhelmed by that lengthy to-do list staring back at you that you will ultimately find yourself standing in your own way. Take the time to think about what is most important and implement a habit of action. You are already a dreamer, now be a doer. Sit down and make a list of what it is that needs to be done and what your ultimate goal is. Then work backwards. Break down what it's going to take to get you from step A to step B. Prioritize those steps and mark them off. Each week have a meeting with your team, regroup, create new action plans and do it all again. Tips:

1. Be realistic: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was your business. Once you have carefully established what is most important, make a realistic plan of action to complete those items. Choose maybe three or four items (or less!) and plan to accomplish the rest the next day.

2. Delegate: We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again. You don’t need to tackle everything yourself. Prioritize tasks for your team as well so that EVERYONE is performing at their most efficient and productive level. Every one of your team members should have their own priority list, not just the head honcho.

3. Pace yourself: Once you’ve tackled an important task, give yourself a breather. You won’t be able to address your next priority well if you’re sprinting through your list. Think healthy jog rather than the 2016 Olympics. You’ll be able to approach each item on your list with fresh eyes and a clear mind.

Most importantly, look at your trajectory from a bird’s eye view. What is the most logical first step, and what follows naturally? Think big picture. Most often, the items on your to-do list have a cause-and-effect impact on one another so make your life easier, and think carefully about how to arrange them.

You are an entrepreneur, and thus a creative thinker by nature! Attack your to-do list with the same mindset with which you conceived your fantastic business idea. Until next time...

think it . dream it . do it
