I’m sure it comes as no surprise that landing your dream gig is not a journey without bumps. I tell you this from experience. I have had my fair share of ups and downs, especially working full-time and taking classes 2 times per week from 4-10 pm while trying to complete my Master's degree. I was perpetually exhausted and each night I would map out what the following day would look like; I had to give myself mental pep talks, repeatedly telling myself that I could do it, like the little train that could. When I started my first business I would work from 5am (after being up with a baby all night) until 10am outside my home, and then be business mommy all day. By the time my husband got home from work and walked in the door, I would literally hand him the baby, he would ask me what I needed, and my reply was always "A blank white wall to just sit and stare at." When I invented my products and was trying to get them out there, I often found myself on the kitchen floor wedged between the corner of the cabinets with my head between my knees, talking myself out of crying. I was terrified I wouldn’t make it.
I could go on and on, but my point is that it takes continuous forward movement, believing in yourself, never giving up and persevering no matter what, to get you where you want to be.
Sure, there are those lucky few that just land that big gig or go huge with their product right out of the gate. Congrats to them! But the truth is, to make it, whatever that "it" is for you, you either have to be incredibly lucky or you have the tenacity and perseverance to never give up!
My definition of perseverance: the only thing between success and failure. I have gone through peaks and valleys and I am so glad I never gave up; I truly couldn't be happier about where I am today!
